AT Thru Hike | Day 109 | July 17th | Daily Miles: 21.0 | Total Miles:1,571.5 Upper Goose Pond Shelter >> Budget Inn, Dalton, MA Last night while winding down, two strangers and a guy I’d met the second or third day on trail were talking about getting a room for the night in Dalton - the next town down the way - and with the incoming thunderstorms, I was in on that plan too. Getting out of bed in the bunkhouse the next morning was easy, with blueberry pancakes and coffee on the way, and they were a delicious as you’d imagine, and the four of us were on the trail shortly after, on the way to the halfway point of the day - the famous cookie lady. From what I’ve heard, she bakes cookies for thru hikers, and while she wasn’t around when I swung by, she also had a blueberry patch that hikers are welcome to pillage, which I did for nearly a half hour. If there was ever a concern on how many blueberries a person could eat before they got sick, I can confirm it’s well over a quart. The remaining ten miles were more slogging through the green tunnel, trying to beat the rain to town, which I just about did, coming up a mile short. I regrouped with the other three hikers, grabbed some beers and ubered out to a hotel room to clean up, do laundry, we ordered some Indian take-out and watched Jurassic Park before crashing. Thorn: The Green Tunnel the past few days has been a slog, and there’s been few views and I’ve spent most of the time alone, save for yesterday morning, spent talking food deserts, co-ops and politics with Cedar, a fellow Minnesota-native. It’s fine, but a change of pace, as I’m stretching the miles and pulling away from the bubble I was comfortable in. Rose: I love blueberries and was a kid in a candy store in that patch. I’ve also been craving Indian food lately, so dinner hit the spot too. . . . . . #appalachiantrail #AT2019 #thruhiker #ATthruhiker2019 #GeorgiatoMaine #GAME #atclassof2019 #livingthedream #trektheAT #hiketheAT #getoutside #getoutdoors #livelifeoutside #findyouradventure #hikertrash #trailmagicjohnson #Massachusetts 30 minutes ago by @spottedwildben

The trail has been tough on us. Injuries, sickness, hurt feet are just a few things that have slowed us down. The elevation changes, mountain climbs, and humidity have been tough the past few days, but we are feeling very healthy and strong at the moment. We did 40 miles the past 3 days and plan to stick to that pace as much as we can. We have made it past the 500 mile mark and could not be more excited 😊 👊🏻🏕 • • • #ruthardt4adventure #thruhike2019 #at2019 #appalachiantrail #healthyliving #nomad #travel #hikeyourhike #trek #trekking #trektheat #trektheat2019 #ospreybackpacking #ospreypacks #bigagnes #altrashoes #liveyourbestlife #hikewithkids #fulltimefamily #fulltimervfamily #fulltimerv #vanlifewithkids #tinyhouse #tinyhousenation #tinyhousedesign 1 hour ago by @ruthardt4adventure

Stealth camping is my favorite. This spot gave me some great water and a swimming hole. Temporary paradise after a long day of ups and downs. . This spot was very close to the trail and my trail friend Dropsey walked right by after we got separate while she was off trail for a resupply. She joined me at camp and it was great to have her company again for a rainy 15 mile push out of the wilderness. Perhaps I'll catch her again after crossing the Kinneback! . . #trektheat #hikeitbaby #takeahike #getlost #hammock #atclassof2019 #stealthcamping #optoutside #appalachiantrail #at2019 #appalachiantrail2019 #camping #camp #backpacking #downbytheriver #greatoutdoors #getlost 1 hour ago by @sweet.hiking

7/15/2019 AT Day 111: 12.7 miles Ten Mile River to St John’s Ledges I sat my hammock up last night by the river because I love falling asleep to the sound of water flowing. Woke up to a nice sunrise. Met up with Calamity and walked together for a bit. We got to a road crossing and hitched a ride into Kent, CT for a resupply. We stopped and ate at a diner where I had an amazing quesadilla! Then we walk to the Kent Welcome Center and start charging our tech stuffs. We spot an ice cream joint across the way, so off we went. I got a strawberry shake and I was okay, but it wasn’t Belews strawberry shake! We then went back and laid around for a bit before we went to resupply. I had been having trouble with either kidneys or bladder so I grabbed me some beer(years ago when I first started having kidney stones, Dr. Jackson told me to drink beer haha). Calamity and I finally left town around 1800 and hit the trail. I can’t recall how many more miles we did but we found an overlook called St Johns Ledges and set up camp there. I found two trees hanging over the ledge that was perfect for my hammock. We were able to watch the moon rise above the mountains and FaceTime with mom and her crazy friends haha. So beautiful! #thruhike #atthruhike #atclassof2019 #appalachiantrail #walktoendalz #thetrek #trektheat 7 hours ago by @happycamperwes

7/14/2019 AT Day 110: 20.7 miles Morgan Stewart Shelter to Ten Mile River Spent the day hiking with McDouble and his wife Pacecar. Amazing people! Started off the morning with some tortillas covered in Nutella and honey. We walked a little ways and stumbled upon some trail magic at the Dover Oak. The Dover Oak is the oldest, and I assume largest, living oak tree on the AT! It was massive! Walked across a boardwalk. Took pictures of some pretty flowers. Arrived at a garden center, had some cokes and ice cream and then decided we wanted to grab some food from the deli but it was 0.7 miles off trail. McDouble called the deli and asked if they would come pick us up so they said “Tony, the owner, will be there shortly to pick you guys up”. So we stuffed our faces with some great food then got a ride back by one of his employees. Officially out of New York and now into Connecticut! I will not miss the trail in NY, but will certainly miss the trail magic because believe it or not, there is a little southern hospitality in the north! My favorite part of the day is when I tricked McDouble into eating wild tea berries! Haha! #thruhike #atthruhike #atclassof2019 #appalachiantrail #walktoendalz #thetrek #trektheat 8 hours ago by @happycamperwes

7/13/2019 AT Day 109: 22.4 miles South Highland Road to Morgan Stewart Shelter Squirrel and I parted ways as she wanted to do a 30 mile day and my body told me to slow down. Was a good ride while it lasted! Saw a big mama bear. Turns out she’s scared of Tyler Childers music and bolted. Walked across an old mining road, very cool. Got up close but not too personal with a copperhead. Summited Shenandoah Mountain where Old Glory was painted across the rock. Played fetch with a dog that was deaf. Walked by a big ass oak tree. Received more magic with the water caches. Watched the sun sink behind the ridgeline. #thruhike #atthruhike #atclassof2019 #appalachiantrail #walktoendalz #thetrek #trektheat 8 hours ago by @happycamperwes

I finally arrived in #rocksilvania since the hike out of Port Clinton we encounter long fields of rocks to climb over. Of course the trail is not all big rocks, but they’re strenuous and slow me down a lot. In the pic you see the view of Knife‘s Edge. My new shoes are better than the last ones, my toes definitely have enough room. I’m though not quite sure how long they will held up and also my ankles hurt... we will see how this continues. Today we met a guy who’s trying to go for the selfsupported record SOBO on the Appalachian Trail. He will start July 23 and wants to finish in 40 days. I had a terrible night at the Garfield shelter. The rain and wind were insane. Even though the following day was just as rainy and foggy. I had a fantastic laugh at the ridiculousness of my situation in the morning. I was soaked at the bottom and had a long day ahead of me. But this is what stories are made of. Flashback to day 133, down goes Frazier, DOWN GOES FRAZIER! The forecast for day 133 was NOT good. Being a mile up in the Whites made it down right dangerous. Having hiked until after dark last night, I was not mad when it was suggested that we zero, stay down in town, and head out the next day. We relocated from Chet's to the Holiday Inn in Lincoln. I knew the odds of zeroing again after this were low- at least I hoped so. Not wanting to waste this one, I talked Duke into putting on our rain gear and heading out to play some miniature golf. I felt bad for the two kids working, because I'm pretty sure had we not shown up just before the rain started, they could have closed up shop and headed back to their Xstations or Playboxes. As it so happened, just after teeing off, the storm moved from the mountain (pic) down to the course, totally eliminating skill from playing a role in the result of our round. For that reason, the final score isn't even worth mentioning. Tomorrow, with better weather on tap, we would resume the climb and start checking off famous historical names as we worked our way into the Presidential Range in the shadows of Mount Washington. #appalachiantrail #atclassof2018 #at2018 #atclassof2019 #at2019 #hiking #nature #travel #adventure #trektheat #hiketheat #thetrek #newhampshire #whitemountains #zeroday #weather #clouds #mountains #miniaturegolf #puttputt 11 hours ago by @patontheat
Day 118 // 17 miles // total: 1486 Connecticut has been a tough state y’all. We began the day with a series of ups and downs. We would climb to the very top of a mountain and immediately hike down a steep decline. Sheriff was killing it but I on the other hand have been experiencing lower leg fatigue and dull aches. This only happens going uphill and then as soon as the terrain evens out I feel okay. Either way I ordered compression sleeves hoping this would ease the pain. Not sure if the heat and humidity is making Connecticut so miserable, swarms of gnats and mosquitos or if it’s the relentless PODS(pointless ups and downs). Today was high 80s and we were sweating like crazy.. I don’t even sweat that much. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Towards the end of the day the sky got dark and thunder roared in the distance. A storm was coming! We weren’t that concerned though; the rain would definitely cool us off.. and it did. However the rain made this boulder section preeeetttty slick. As we approached the top of a rock Sheriff gave me instructions to step on a certain area to ensure I didn’t slip. As I stepped up my foot slipped from under me and before I knew it I was rolling; approaching an 8ft drop off. But I was caught by a tree becoming pinned between the boulder and this miraculous tree. I was nervous I had hurt something since I hit so hard and sudden, so I stayed still. Sheriff quickly came to my rescue and I thankfully came out unscratched. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #AppalachianTrail #TrekTheAT #AT2019 #thruhike #backpacking #thetrek #camping #greatoutdoorprovisioncompany #longdistancehike #adventurecouple #youtuber #optoutside #appalachiantrailvlog #appalachiantrail2019 #hike #longtrail #womenwhohike #thruhike2019 #thruhiking #backpackingcouple #travelcouple #adventurecouple #appalachianmountains #mountains #hikingcouple #travel #hikertrash 12 hours ago by @the_dower_duo

Day 99 on the AT: Sunflower 🌻 Cottage to Some Shelter. 9 Miles. The plan was to do 19 miles to get to Trail of Hope Hostel but I found out a package that I was waiting on didn’t arrive yet so I decided to split the hike up that way I could save a little time. I don’t really like hiking lower miles these days but some are better than none. Just means that I have to make up for them at some point. Started the day out with an awesome breakfast. Thank you @soolahhoopsllc A little after I started though I realized that I accidentally threw my Awol guide away so I started to hike the old fashioned way. Follow the White blaze. Then I realized I had a 2018 PDF file on my phone. Yay!!! But then every time I opened it the damn thing would time out so I had to screenshot the pages I needed before it timed out. Pretty much a frustrating day especially considering the fact that I claimed “The South has risen again” and my first day in the North I was put in my place 😂 Whatever though. The Champ is Here!!! Best part of the day was breakfast with Soolah, playing in the Playground and crossing into Pennsylvania. Actually not a bad day at all when I think about it. #japhethsjourney #thechamphikes #appalachiantrail #appalachiantrail2019 #atthruhike #at2019 #atclassof2019 #thetrek #trektheat #hike #hiking #hikers #hikes #hiker #hikerlife #dudeswhohike #outdoordonkey #optoutside #backpacking #hikersofinstagram #hikertrash 12 hours ago by @the_champ_hikes

Day 44 | 7.5 miles | 356 total | Today did not go as planned but it turned out good. Got an early start but was going slower than I should have. Got about half way through my day and received some trail magic and then headed up the first mountain of the day. On the way up it started to rain and by the time I got to the top, it was pouring. Luckily, there was a Boy Scout group at the top and two of the leaders offered to take me to town so I went and ended up at a hostel in Erwin. Showered, laundry, and dry bed for the win. 🌧 12 hours ago by @amanda23may
Day 106 | Hiked 13.5 | Mile 1375.8 Since i got in pretty late last night, i slept in and enjoyed the extra hour of sleep. Got back on trail around 9ish and made my way to the NJ/NY border, oh yeah! Another state down and 6 to go, 😢. Headed up to Prospect Park which is the highest point in New York on the AT and a nice American flag to honor it. We were doing allot if rock climbing and boulder crawling for most of the day and in the exposed sun. By about noon i had drank almost 4 liters of water and was drenched in sweat. I looked at the weather and showed it felt like 113 degrees, so i headed into Greenwood Lake which was 0.8 miles off trail and headed to the gas station. They had a little rest area in the store, so i chilled in the A/C and hydrated. Spent a few hours cooling down and headed out to the next shelter which was 3 miles up trail. By the time I’d gotten to the shelter i was drenched again. Met up with a few hikers that had the same mindset, take an early day, drink lots if water and prepare for the rain tonight. Supposed to be a high of 80 tomorrow so that will be a relief. Being this far into New York is officially the farthest north I’ve been on the east coast, it’s all new territory from here, 💪😎. Have a good night everyone. Thanks for all the love and support. 🏕🚶‍♂️⛰ Hike on... #2019appalachiantrailthruhike #appalachiantrail #atthruhike #atnobo2019 #georgiatomaine #at2019 #traillife #backpacking #adventureawaits #explore #exploremore #optoutdoors #thruhiker #katahdinorbust #ichallengeyoutoalloutlife #thetrek #backpackerradio #TrektheAT 13 hours ago by @scott.the.bald

Day 11 | 15.1 miles No doubt, one of the best days on trail so far - by 6 am, I hit the 100 mile mark on my AT SOBO trek and by 5:30 pm I emerged from the 100 mile wilderness. Still at a loss for words as I look back on the ridges and valleys of our trek so far. It’s hard to believe it’s just the beginning. I’m excited to see what the rest of the trail has in store, but first a zero or two at Shaw’s Hiker Hostel. #appalachiantrail #appalachiantrail2019 #trektheat #atclassof2019 #atsobo #atsobo2019 #maine #100milewilderness #outlivingit #optoutside #womenwhohike #thruhike #thruhiker 14 hours ago by @allison.on.the.at

I met Bedpan one night at Murrow Park a couple weeks ago. The sun had set so lighting was with some studio strobes. I'm not sure who was more mesmerized by the light, Bedpan or the 3 mosquitoes (above his right hand) who photo-bombed the shot... Bedpan, who comes from Philly, took to the trail on March 1st for a NOBO thru-hike. Have a great rest of your trek! 📸Photo by: @justin_goodhart_photography #appalachiantrail #harlemvalley #hikerportrait . . . . #makeportraits #pawlingny #hudsonvalley #photoshoot #makeportraitsnotwar #harlemvalleyatcommunity @harlemvalleyatcommunity @nynjtc @iloveny #upstateny @appalachiantrail #trailmagic #humansofnewyork #dutchesscounty #environmentalportrait #neverstopexploring #nikonnofilter #athiker #appalachiantrail2019 #appalachiantrailconservancy @appalachianmountainclub @georgiatomaine @appalachian.trail #athiker2019 #atnobo2019 #trektheat #appalachiantrailthruhike #wildeast #hitthetrail #whiteblaze #ATclassof2019 #appalachianhikers @appalachianhikers #hikehappy #nightportrait 14 hours ago by @harlemvalleyathp

Mcafee's Knob to Daleville was my first lil' overnight hike on the AT since last year. Hardly saw anyone after the first overlook, except for the resident shelter snake. Good to live in the woods again, if only for two days. #appalachiantrail #trektheat #backpacking #virginia #swva 15 hours ago by @tefltrekker

Out with the old, in with the new. My old poles had 1480 miles on em, and are about an inch shorter than they were when they started. My shoes have 760 miles on them and are still in pretty decent condition, I replaced them though and the new ones should last the rest of the trail. #groceronthetrail #newkicks #appalachiantrail #at2019 #thruhike #camping #hiking #AT #hammock #hammockcamping #camplifestyle #hikertrash #trekTheAt #thetrek #thruHiker #longdistancebackpacking #backpacking #NationalParks #zpacks #warbonnetoutdoors #rei #enlightenedequipment 18 hours ago by @connor.hannig

@ssavannahleee and her AT homies @soapycooper and @nicholasdmarshall completed the #SummitBootChallenge on top of Mt. Washington. ⛰🥾🍻 . Fun Fact: Mt. Washington is the highest peak in the Northeastern United States at 6,288.2 ft (1,916.6 m) and the most topographically prominent mountain east of the Mississippi River. The mountain is notorious for its erratic weather. On the afternoon of April 12, 1934, the Mount Washington Observatory recorded a windspeed of 231 miles per hour (372 km/h) at the summit, the world record from 1934 until 1996. Mt. Washington still holds the record for highest measured wind speed not associated with a tornado or tropical cyclone. 19 hours ago by @hoodrathiking
Day 10 | 10.9 miles Nearing the end of the 100 mile wilderness, we finished our last significant mountain range and my hiker hunger is beginning to kick in (or maybe I’m just really ready for town and food). It may be the light at the end of this 100 mile wilderness, but I’m beginning to enjoy the days more. The wilderness has become more manageable or maybe I stopped fighting it and learned to accept and embrace it for what it is. #trektheat #appalachiantrail #appalachiantrail2019 #thetrek #atclassof2019 #atthruhike2019 #atsobo #atsobo2019 #outlivingit #optoutside #womenwhohike #thruhiker #thruhike 📸 @_rolson 19 hours ago by @allison.on.the.at

I met Apollo at Murrow Park in Pawling a couple weeks ago. Night had settled in, but I had a studio light so we were able to still do some trail portraits. We somehow started chatting about Buddhism, and I was very glad to hear that he has stopped at the Chuang Yen Monastery in Carmel, NY that's only a couple miles from the trail. It's one of my favorite places. Apollo, who comes from New Hampshire, started his NOBO thru-hike on April 20th. Connecticut was only 51 miles long but we packed a lot of fun into those miles. Cliff jumping off Great Falls, passing 1500 miles, and getting free beer in Cornwall Bridge were some of the highlights. At the Liberty Springs campground we were able to do a ‘work for stay’ instead of paying for our campsites. Sometimes the work for stays are just cleaning up trash, but we got lucky with a campground host who taught us about the trampled vegetation around the sites and how to find baby conifers that are too close together to survive once they get bigger that we could dig up and replant in trampled areas! About 1 in 5 supposedly survive to become big trees, so after finding & replanting 10 of them, 2 will hopefully be around for the long run :) 20 hours ago by @juliana_chauncey

I see all your Double Marathons and raise you a THIRD Marathon. I brought out the Grim Reaper of Miles on the CDT for my 24 hour challenge out of Rawlins, WY. I backpacked 75.9 miles in one 24hr day. Then i had 2.3 to get to water so i could drink, eat, and go to sleep. Between 11:30pm on 7/13 and 1:30am on 7/15 I hiked nonstop for 26 hrs basically and hiked a triple marathon doing 78.8 miles. I took 3 breaks to get water and 15 minutes at a Diner in Rawlins as we waited for Midnight before hiking out of town. . I have several thank yous, the first is to everyone here on Instagram who encouraged me to attempt this 24 hour challenge with my aggressive goal of 70 miles. Secondly to @akunahikes and Undecided for letting us sleep on your hotel room floor durring the day till 11pm, sorry for all the farts! Third is to @oskarenglund and Lumber for going on this challenge with me. Redfish hiked 70.3 miles and Lumber over 57. Next is to my sponsor @oleolife for keeping me powered up, and last a big thanks to @merrell footwear for throwing us an awesome party in Rawlins on our zero day before this crazy challenge. I've uploaded a video to my story and will be uploading the a video of it to my YouTube. Now were in town planning the logistics for doing the Wind River High Route as an alternate. Maybe the Basin made us miss the snow a little? 22 hours ago by @thedosukinuta
Age does something, to the land and to a person alike. It washes the softness away and leaves the hard parts exposed. Sweat and tears carve lines in skin like a stream in a valley. Rocky peaks and boney cheeks. Bruises like a dropped fruit. Every day is a gift. More than the sights, I love the sounds and the the smells of alpinism. The scent of high alpine air is intoxicating. It’s like when you bring a Christmas tree indoors times one thousand. And it carries the same emotional weight for me. ⁣ ⁣ It’s the feeling of promise and potential, of good things to come. It’s the thrill of being in the presence of something special and foreign. I have a TREE in my HOUSE. I am a PERSON in an uninhabitable LAND. There’s something deliciously wild and unexpected about it all. ⁣ ⁣ The sights, on the other hand, come easy. I open my laptop and I’m looking at a beautiful Teton vista. My phone flashes a snowy mountain summit. No sweat. Literally. ⁣ ⁣ That heady resin smell of spruce and fir, though. That, you have to earn. ⁣ ⁣ We climbed Mt. Greylock, the highest point in Massachusetts, this morning, and we’re three miles from the Vermont border, with increasingly challenging climbs to come. I am full of childlike glee. This is my element, and it’s like Christmas to me. 22 hours ago by @tinacurrin

Day 127|16.Jul.2019|Ohlson Family Farm » Nauman Campsite|Total Miles: 6.4 mi|Mile Marker: 1853.0 mi|Gabe had to work this morning, so we knew we wouldn’t be getting back on trail until early afternoon, which meant we could sleep in! I still woke up around 5:30am, but was able to snooze for a bit. Blacksmith cooked us up some bacon and eggs and we just lounged around listening to some tunes for the morning. We were very tempted to stay, but the day was way too nice to take a zero, so we decided to make the first push to Mt. Washington and the first climb looked daunting from the road. We ran in to Artisan in the parking lot when we got dropped off and he joined our train. The climb to Webster Cliffs was a doozie, but a great place to take a break after the hour long climb. Of course, the views right around the corner were even more stunning, and we didn’t see the better break spot until we were moving on. We finished the climb to Mt. Webster and could see rain in the distance. We could also see Mt. Washington, Grafton Notch, the parking lot we just came from, and miles in to the distance. The rain was light and only lasted for a few minutes - it was clear skies and sun by the time we got to the top of Mt. Jackson (I am for real). I couldn’t get over the views we had today or some of the crazy rock climbs we had to do to get up there and I was starting to feel a little emotional. Maybe it was because we’re getting close to the end, but I think it was because I was just in awe of The Whites and New Hampshire. • • #appalachiantrail #NOBO2019 #ATclassof2019 #AT2019 #trektheAT #thetrek #hiketheAT #hikertrash #appalachianhikers #GeorgiatoMaine #GAME #withguthook #theatguide #NewHampshireAT #thewildandwonderfulwhitesofnewhampshire #letsrollbutthole 23 hours ago by @agannon22

This is Ten More, not ten more miles, but ten more minutes...lol. She's having a lot of fun on the trail and we met up at Murrow Park one evening a couple weeks ago. Wooden steps in stone have been popping up more on our descents. Photos don’t capture how steep the steps are, but some of them are pretty scary when there are 20+ steps down a long vertical rock slab with nothing to hold onto but your trekking poles. This set was nice, but the ones following Beaver Brook slowed me down so much 😬 1 day ago by @juliana_chauncey
Day 43 | 10.5 miles | 348.5 total | Got to cross over my favorite river today, the Nolichucky. Also go to relax my feet in a stream about 2 miles before camp. Doing 10 miles yesterday was tough since it was only my second day back and my body wasn’t used to all the miles yet but today was a lot easier.☀️ 1 day ago by @amanda23may

AT Thru Hike | Day 108 | July 16th | Daily Miles: 21.3 | Total Miles:1,550.5 Tom Leonard Shelter >> Upper Goose Pond Shelter After a very restful night alone at the campsite, I was up early to get moving on another big day. I’d been told by a few people of the Upper Goose Pond Shelter, situated on a lake with a dock for swimming and a canoe or two, and it was 22 miles away - a bit of a haul over a lot of up-and-down terrain, and a haul it was. I didn’t see a soul until I got there. The only signs of other hikers I saw were a small outpost with snacks and sodas for sale, and a picked over and depleted trail magic cache, complete with a sad jar of pickle brine devoid of any pickles. The quiet day let me crank through an audio book fleshing out more of the Band of Brothers HBO miniseries and I made decent time to the shelter, after some grueling uphills and very few views along the way. The book certainly helped in that regard - I could relate to the long marches and living in mud and filth, and the stories made my day pretty amazing by comparison. I got to the shelter around 5pm, meeting mostly new faces when I got there, and after stuffing my face to gain back some energy, I jumped in the lake to clean up, hung out and chewed the fat with the other hikers and called it a relatively early night. Sadly, no canoes were launched by the completion of my day. Thorn: I misjudged the amount of food I needed to make it to the next town, and I’m carrying way too much, which is just extra weight at this point. Rose: I kicked ass on a long, hard day, and the shelter’s caretaker cooks blueberry pancakes and coffee at 6am for hikers, so I’ve got a hot, sit-down breakfast to look forward to tomorrow! . . . . . #appalachiantrail #AT2019 #thruhiker #ATthruhiker2019 #GeorgiatoMaine #GAME #atclassof2019 #livingthedream #trektheAT #hiketheAT #getoutside #getoutdoors #livelifeoutside #findyouradventure #hikertrash #trailmagicjohnson #Massachusetts 1 day ago by @spottedwildben

Wow! The White Mountains!! Since we are 6 people we are considered a group here in the Whites meaning we have to work with the group coordinator on where to camp during this section...she had us on a crazy schedule of about 15 miles per day (most thru hikers cut their miles way down in the whites due to the crazy terrain) We were able to stick with it except for 1 day! We had really long tough days but some of the most fun of the trip....started up Kinsman at 6:30 at night summiting for a gorgeous sunset after the really long verticle climb...we climbed beautiful Franconia Ridge which brought back awesome childhood memories for me....we had sooo much rain the trail turned into a river and we were nervous about being able to get up and over Washington....but we had the clearest day of the week!! A night with family recharged us and the next couple days we finished the Presidentials with a great night at Rattle River Lodge and Hostel...Eric and his staff are wonderful and really cater to hikers...a great place - check it out!....now we are so close to the Maine border we can’t wait! 7/12/2019 AT Day 108: 22 miles William Brien Memorial Shelter to South Highland Road We woke up and put on our wet clothes and shoes. Fun fun👎🏻. We hit the 1400 mile mark. Got to the top of a mountain and sat at an overlook for an hour or so eating ramen and potatoes and spam(delicious). Walked through a zoo because the AT runs right through it. Walked across the Hudson River(lowest elevation on the AT). Got stung by a hornet, bastards. Stopped to eat at the Appalachian Market. Eventually waddled my way into camp, where I enjoyed playing with the blood sucking mosquitoes #thruhike #atthruhike #atclassof2019 #appalachiantrail #walktoendalz #thetrek #trektheat 1 day ago by @happycamperwes

Shaw’s will always hold a special place in my heart. . You can feel the warmth and love from the people that help run this place. May it be the endless blueberry pancakes, slack-line in the front yard, indigo running to greet you (and jump on the swing with you) or playing cars with Finn in the sandbox. Thank you Shaw’s (hippie chick and poet) for everything you do for the backpacking community and allowing hikers a place to recover. 1 day ago by @the.lazo

Over two years ago I promised myself that after I graduated from the University of Maine that I would walk out of the state on the Appalachian Trail. Happy to say that yesterday that dream finally came true. It was a physically and mentally challenging 280 miles but leaving Maine was bittersweet. Thanks for being my home for the past four years, can’t wait to come back to this beautiful state one day. Onto the many other states of the trail! If you’d like to help motivate me by donating a penny per mile (22$total when I finish) to charity then please check out this link! (Wouldn’t have to pay until I’m done in at least a few months) http://www.hikefor.com/Eric/AT/2019 #charity #appalachiantrail #southbound #sobo2019 #trektheat 1 week ago by @ericbastidas
