Day 131|120.Jul.2019|Carter Dome Stealth Site » Bethel Inn|Total Miles: 14 mi|Mile Marker: 1893.7 mi|Our last push through The Whites took us over Mount Hight, South, Middle, and North Carter Mountains, and Mt. Moriah. Some of the peaks aren’t classified as 4K’ers because their neighbors stand a little bit taller than them, but we still climbed up them all, because it’s the AT! We had views every half mile it seemed like and they were gorgeous every time. The heat started getting to us all by mid-day and since we spent a lot of the day above tree line, we didn’t have many options for water sources. We were lucky to be at higher elevations though and had a breeze to cool us off. The last few miles coming off Mt. Moriah were rough and we found a swimming hole to jump in, so we could wake up and refresh our bodies for the last 2 miles. We got to the trail head and found some very random trail magic, but it was a treat none-the-less. The real trail magic was Susie coming to pick us up! 🙌🏼 We had some celebratory beers and grabbed dinner, found a hotel in Bethel (Maine), watched some fireworks and celebrated Molly Ockett Day, and most importantly - took a shower and slept in a real bed! The other high point was realizing we now have less than 300 miles to go! • • #appalachiantrail #NOBO2019 #ATclassof2019 #AT2019 #trektheAT #thetrek #hiketheAT #hikertrash #appalachianhikers #GeorgiatoMaine #GAME #withguthook #theatguide #NewHampshireAT #thewildandwonderfulwhitesofnewhampshire #letsrollbutthole 2 hours ago by @agannon22

Thru hiking is hard. We go through the full range of human emotions on a daily basis, we sweat our asses off, we walk all day and then we walk some more. But we choose to be here. And I’m so glad I’m here. The trail is bringing out the best in me and also the worst. I’m learning what I’m really made of and I’m grateful for those lessons. I’m grateful for every beautiful thing I get to see but mostly for the people I’ve met so far and the friendships I’ve made ❤️❤️❤️❤️ #appalachiantrail #at #appalachiantrail2019 #at2019 #greentunnel #nobo #thruhike #thruhiker #hikertrash #hiking #georgiatomaine #womenwhoexplore #thetrek #appalachianhikers 7 hours ago by @elconrad_
Short day in high heat into Delaware Water Gap. Rocks very much easier on us. Getting into town before noon we enjoyed a nice shower in the human power washer at the church hostel. Fisher drove Viking and me to the laundry and Dollar General. Afterwards we got lunch at the probably only nice place in Stroudsburg. Afternoon and evening was mainly hanging out and relaxing. A heat wave is going on and even without moving we were sweating. And the good news is: I got a replacement part for my bent pole at the outfitter. Awesome service there! 1) sunrise out of my hammock 2) view of the Delaware River 3) less than 900 miles to go 4) Mother Nature provides 5) beautiful pond we hiked by • Day 99 - 1295.5 trail miles - Delaware Water Gap • #appalachiantrail #appalachiantrail2019 #appalachianhikers #thruhiker #thruhiking #thruhike #at2019 #atthruhike2019 #trektheat #NOBO #atthruhike #atclass2019 #georgiatomaine #traillove #withguthook #optoutside #getoutside #mountainlove #hikevibes #hiker #hiking #wandern #wanderung #swissgirlhiking #womenwhohike #sheexplores #abenteuerlust #allwomenalltrails #journal 8 hours ago by @jules.hikes

DAY 84- July 21st Miles-22 Total miles-1052 Woke up early and got moving at 6:35am. Went up Moxie Bald Mountain which was really pretty. Soon after we got to the bottom we got POURED on. We had to ford two streams which didn’t matter since we were already soaking wet. We got to the road at 4:55 and then got a ride to the hostel. Showered and headed for food 😍. It was lovely and we feel good about the day. . . #atthruhike2019 #flipflopthruhike #backpacking #hikertrash #takeahike #withguthook #adventure #explore #ATflipflop19 #appalachiantrail #tarahandpathiketheAT #trektheAT #ATclassof2019 #appalachianhikers #lighterpackclub #whiteblaze #womenwhohike #thruhike #hikerhunger 10 hours ago by @devine_hiker

Day 106 1767.3 to 1748.3 After a nice breakfast a bunch of us got dropped off up the trail so we can slack pack back to the hostel. Today was a few big climbs but they were fun to do. It was hot but not as bad as I was expecting but it was still nice to be able to run up and down the mountain without a pack. Stopped by at the co-op for some resupply and picked up some pork chops for dinner. Crossed into my second to last state. Bye Vermont, Hello New Hampshire. 12 hours ago by @akat2019

All clean up...no longer stinky and lighter than I have been for a very long time! Which is good, but unfortunately absolutely nothing in my closet fits🤦🏻‍♂️! The picture on the right is from my very first day on trail at Hawk mountain shelter...my face says it all - I was like WTF did I sign up for? I was cold, it was rainy, I was worry about failing, afraid of what was coming, and so many other thoughts. Well, I’m glad I did sign up for it🙌🙌, glad that I conquered my fears, glad that I always pushed myself, glad that even on bad days there was always something funny that will make me laugh! I’m still processing this whole thing...but yes, I’m STILL very excited about finishing, the transformation and growth is definitely real!!! . . . . . #xiscohikes #hiker #hiking #backpacking #thetrek #trektheAT #ATclassof2019 #AT2019 #appalachiantrail #appalachiantrail2019 #thruhike #camping #appalachianhikers #nature #inspiration #adventure #outdoors #wanderlust #backtonormal #hikertrash #hikingadventures #travel #mountains #photography #naturephotography #explore 16 hours ago by @_travelstoomuch_

DAY 83- July 20th Miles-14.7 Total miles-1030 Had a nice breakfast at the b&b this morning- and then hit the trail around 10. We packed out some left over beers and wanted to hand them out to hikers- we ran into one right away- he was so excited. Then our friend Scavenger finally caught up to us- we haven’t seen him since the whites. We hiked off and on with him all day. It was hot today- record breaking temps for this area. . . #atthruhike2019 #flipflopthruhike #backpacking #hikertrash #takeahike #withguthook #adventure #explore #ATflipflop19 #appalachiantrail #tarahandpathiketheAT #trektheAT #ATclassof2019 #appalachianhikers #lighterpackclub #whiteblaze #womenwhohike #thruhike #hikerhunger 23 hours ago by @devine_hiker
Day 130|19.Jul.2019|Osgood Tent Site » Carter Dome Stealth Site|Total Miles: 11.8 mi|Mile Marker: 1879.7 mi|We had an easy 5 miles down to Pinkham Notch this morning and then we were planning on hitching a ride in to Gorham for a small resupply. I had a few packages waiting for me from my Mom and Lille and with all the extra treats Mom snuck in there was no resupply necessary! I’m so happy to have a new pair of shoes that should last me until Katahdin and a new hat for some extra flare. A few of us hung out at the Visitors Center charging our electronics and hanging out for a bit before we packed out a sandwich, took a quick dip/bath in the river, and started to tackle the steep climb up Wildcat D Peak. We enjoyed all the views on the way up and saw where we came from the day before and where we would be heading the next day (essentially a huge loop, just because the AT wants to make sure we hit all the big peaks!) We rode the ridge from Wildcat D to Wildcat Mountain and dropped down to the Carter Notch Hut. The day was scorching, but it was so much cooler up in the mountains, so I got my last baked good from the Hut and started the climb up Carter Dome. I found a great spot to camp up top and had dinner with a father-son duo that are attempting all the 4k peaks in New Hampshire. Napster, Smirk, and Blacksmith all showed up later and looked a little rough, but we only have 14 miles left of The Whites! • • #appalachiantrail #NOBO2019 #ATclassof2019 #AT2019 #trektheAT #thetrek #hiketheAT #hikertrash #appalachianhikers #GeorgiatoMaine #GAME #withguthook #theatguide #NewHampshireAT #thewildandwonderfulwhitesofnewhampshire #letsrollbutthole 1 day ago by @agannon22

Today it was to hot for big hiking... we went into town (Wind Gap) to collect our packages from the post office. And like hiker trash we hang out there and dried our stuff. Mr. President and I got warmer underquilts in preparation for the White Mountains. Later we got some good food at the Cafe on Broadway. We hiked out at 3pm and we did meet the ridge runner Smats. I think it’s the 5th I have met so far. Ridge runners are employed by the Appalachian Trail Conservancy and they educate and help thruhikers in certain sections. They pick up trash, do trail maintenance, take care of the privies and talk to the hikers. • Day 98 - 1289 trail miles - Kirkridge Shelter • #appalachiantrail #appalachiantrail2019 #appalachianhikers #thruhiker #thruhiking #thruhike #at2019 #atthruhike2019 #trektheat #NOBO #atthruhike #atclass2019 #georgiatomaine #traillove #withguthook #optoutside #getoutside #mountainlove #hikevibes #hiker #hiking #wandern #wanderung #swissgirlhiking #womenwhohike #sheexplores #abenteuerlust #allwomenalltrails 1 day ago by @jules.hikes

Well buddies... I’m going to Cracker Barrel. 👣🌲🎒 A huge thanks to all the people who gave me a hitch into town or to the trail, made me a burger on the side of the road, gave me a smile when I hiked past, put me up at their hostel, let me pet their dog, send me a motivational text or message, everything. I love and appreciate all of you and boy howdy do I have some trail magic to give back in my life. And a super special thanks to the bestest hiking buddy/roommate ever. You kept me safe and on track and happy and if I type any more I’m going to audibly gag. Thanks, Legs. You’re the bomb. So, stay tuned for the 350 miles I still have left in southern Virginia!!! Day 123 7/18/19 What an awesome day today was! We beat our previous longest day and hiked 32.1 miles! We started the morning by hiking 12 miles by 10:00 a.m. to eat in the town of Dalton, MA, then hiked another 8 miles to Cheshire, MA. I love days that include lots of towns. 🤗 I had a ridiculously good meatball sub in the first town which really empowered me for my hike. We had some tough climbs today, but for the most part the terrain was pretty gentle. We went over the highest peak in MA which was beautiful, even though we were up in the clouds. The rain yesterday and this morning really cooled the temps down, so it never got above 70. That was an amazing break from all the heat we’ve been having! I felt the strongest mentally and physically today that I’ve felt in a long time. It felt good to pump out the miles. Arrow did phenomenal as well. She hopped around all day with a smile on her face. I don’t think the 30 miles fazed her at all. 😅 1 day ago by @hikingwitharrow
Day 129|18.Jul.2019|Lake of the Clouds Hut » Osgood Tent Site|Total Miles: 10.3 mi|Mile Marker: 1867.9 mi|We woke up to a gorgeous sunrise and clear views of Mt. Washington, so we all booked it out of the Hut and up the short 1.5 miles to the summit. We really lucked out and had blue skies and were above the clouds, which gave us endless views! Napster and I wandered around the summit enjoying it all and the fact that there weren’t any tourists or other hikers up there! After hanging around at the summit for a few hours, we got back on the trail just as the first few trains started chugging their way to the top on the Cog Railroad. We had lots of ridge walking ahead of us full of rocks that reminded us of Pennsylvania and thank goodness for the giant cairns on the trail, otherwise I would’ve gotten so lost. We had lunch at the Madison Hut right before our short butt-buster of an ascent up Mt. Madison. We finally got down below tree line a few miles before camp and it was nice to be back in the delicious smelling alpine forest. Still can’t believe our summit this morning or the fact that Mt. Washington is in our rear view mirror, which means Katadhin is starting to get even closer. • • #appalachiantrail #NOBO2019 #ATclassof2019 #AT2019 #trektheAT #thetrek #hiketheAT #hikertrash #appalachianhikers #GeorgiatoMaine #GAME #withguthook #theatguide #NewHampshireAT #thewildandwonderfulwhitesofnewhampshire #letsrollbutthole 2 days ago by @agannon22

Day 78 | Rockfish Gap to Blackrock Hut | 20.7 miles | Total miles 884.4 | Back on trail after a relaxing zero, and it was time to enter our second national park - Shenandoah National Park! I was sure there would be a better sign to get a picture with, and was clearly wrong haha. We were planning to do a short day so we could leave later from town. The joke was on us when we discovered the area we had planned to camp had been closed off due to heightened bear activity...womp womp. It was already getting dark, so an extra eight miles meant a few hours of night hiking. When we first started the trail I was terrified of night hiking, but I’ve come to like it fine. At least it’s less hot💁🏼‍♀️ 2 days ago by @rachelcanning

Day 78 | Zero! | Waynesboro, VA | We made the most of this zero - Chinese buffets, Cookout, napping, watching HGTV while lying in bed, and exploring the local museum. The museum had the cutest exhibit about a vintage advertising campaign for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway that featured Chessie the cat. They wanted to show off that you would sleep as peacefully as a kitten with their newly installed air conditioning🥰 2 days ago by @rachelcanning

Well hello there New Hampshire. 12 states down, 2 to go! Only one more state line to cross. We will be getting into the most difficult but also the most beautiful terrain of the whole trail, and we absolutely can’t wait. We’ll be starting the White Mountains before taking a week off in GA for the wedding of some of our closest friends, and then we’re gonna come back and finish this thing off! • • • • • #hikinghartleys #appalachiantrail #appalachianhikers #at2019 #thruhike #nobo #newhampshire #thetrek #trektheat #withguthook 2 days ago by @hikingwiththehartleys

Day 103 1692.4 to 1713.0 The climb up to Killington was a lot of fun, I also did the .2 blue blaze that was vertical to get to the very top. Regretfully the top was covered in clouds so no views. Stopped by at the McGrath's Irish Pub at the Inn At Long Trail and had a lovely lunch. Passed the 1700 miles mark. 2 days ago by @akat2019

Day 2: The day I almost quit - this is why. Over 300 mosquito bites in less than 10 hours as I hiked out of Baxter State Park. . Thanks mom for the pep-talk and encouragement to keep going. . One of my favorite moments so far on the trail - summiting Mount Bigelo (Myron Avery Peak North) at sunset. . . This trek has been something I never expected. It has been one of the hardest, and certainly the most mentally challenging, things I’ve ever done. I’ve been struggling with expressing how much of a privilege it is to experience this landscape, but also how exhausting and overwhelming the experience is. I promise I’ll post more as the words come. In the mean time, prayers and positive thoughts are appreciated. . . #nofilter #thruhiker #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealth #hikemaine #thetrek #thetrekat #atsobo #atsobo2019 #at2019 #hike #hikergirl #hiker #appalachiantrail2019 #atclassof2019 #hikertrash #hikelikeawoman #sheexplores #trail #optoutside #appalachianhikers #keepnaturewild #peoplewhohike #appalachiantrail 2 days ago by @idreamevergreen
Day 122 7/17/19 Today was so much fun! We got up and out of camp early, cause we had somewhere to be. 😎 About 14 miles past our shelter, there was an AT cabin on a pond that you can swim in, canoe in, and hang out at, so we decided to do lunch there. Arrow was SO excited to be there.. this dog loves to swim! Her and I went for a swim and it felt sooooo nice. There was even pop at the shelter that someone had left for AT hikers, so that was nice with my lunch. We didn’t hang for too long, but it was such a great break in our day. At the almost-end of our day, it suddenly started thundering off in the distance, and before we knew it, we were getting absolutely POURED on. Thankfully we weren’t too far from the shelter, and once we got there we were able to get spots and get dry. 🙌🏼 It’s been a L O N G time since we’ve had a good rain, and I’m thankful for it bc water sources have been pretty dry. All in all today was such a great day. I got to watch a couple more episodes of Stranger Things and hang with some of my favorite people tonight. Feeling very thankful. ☺️✨ 2 days ago by @hikingwitharrow

Today we got a full load Pennsylvania... the climb out of Lehigh Gap was strenuous but provided some spectacular views. The weather was wet and I was happy that we could climb up on dry rocks, the rain came in later that day. The rest of the trail was very technical, lots of little rocks and not much happening. No water for 17.6 miles. But a nice person set out a water and Gatorade cache. And Mr. President carried two extra liters of water which he shared with Viking and me. In the evening we we’re all beaten up and we look forward to get out of these rocks. • Day 98 - 1275.3 trail miles - Leroy A. Day 121 7/16/19 We definitely took our sweet time leaving town this morning. We ate at a Japanese restaurant for lunch and then got a ride back to trail. As we were getting back, two of our tramily members who have been behind walked up, so that was a nice surprise to see them! The climb out of town sucked, but we were rewarded with some beautiful views at the top. So far I’m really enjoying Massachusetts. The terrain is challenging enough, but the views are nice, there’s lots of ponds, and the trail is pretty well maintained. I’m excited for the rest of our time here! 2 days ago by @hikingwitharrow

The current @outtherepodcast ambassador theme is perseverance. Two years ago this week I did one of the coolest things I’ve ever done in the outdoors: I took this kiddo on her very first overnight backpacking trip. Her bravery and #perseverance through some pretty major suck inspired me. She got soaked in a thunderstorm the first night, and got sick the second night, and for some reason she still wanted to go back again. She showed me #whatgirlsaremadeof and what it means to #hikelikeagirl. Two years is too long! I think it’s time for another Tink and Meerkat adventure very soon. ——— Have you ever introduced someone new to the outdoors? ——— 📍this is Tsalaguwetiyi (Cherokee) land . . . . . #getkidsout #girlswhohike #adventurelikeagirl #sheexplores #optoutside #sweatydirtyhappy #forceofnature #kidswhohike #nationalforests #mypublicland #publiclandowner #wandernorthga #AppalachianTrail #trektheAT #georgiatomaine #girlsgonebackpacking #appalachianhikers #hiketheAT #wildeast #gooutsideandplay #getoutstayout #outtherepodcast #withguthook 2 days ago by @adventurelikeagirl
Day 120 7/15/19 The first full day in Massachusetts was mostly good, with maybe a little bleh. We started our day with two big climbs (two of Mass’s highest peaks, lolz) that were pretty steep and extremely rocky. I think what got me, though, were the downhills. After the second climb, we had a 5-mile downhill trek that literally sucked the energy out of me... I was so happy to see the road at the bottom! We did experience some trail magic (yay!) right before we hit the town of Great Barrington, MA. We decided to nero in (ya girl needed a shower BAD) and stay the night. We had a delicious dinner at a local brewery and then went and saw the new Spider-Man! This is such a cool town and I had such a fun night here! These off-trail moments are what make this experience so much fun. 😁 2 days ago by @hikingwitharrow

DAY 81- July 18th Miles-17.7 Total miles-1011.3 After waking up and using the nicest privy on trail so far- we started out around 8. Within a few miles we saw our first body of water- Flagstaff lake- Beer jumped in and I put my legs in- it was beautiful. Then we HIT 1000 MILES! So exciting- also had to listen to “I’m gonna be”- because you just have to. We came across a pond to eat lunch at- and then soon after another pond to take an afternoon foot bath. Today’s trail was SO NICE- we haven’t seen trail this nice since the end of Vermont. We set up our tent by a lovely waterfall this evening and it’s sounds will soon put me to sleep. . . #atthruhike2019 #flipflopthruhike #backpacking #hikertrash #takeahike #withguthook #adventure #explore #ATflipflop19 #appalachiantrail #tarahandpathiketheAT #trektheAT #ATclassof2019 #appalachianhikers #lighterpackclub #whiteblaze #womenwhohike #thruhike #hikerhunger 2 days ago by @devine_hiker

DAY 80- July 17th Miles-13.4 Total miles- 993.6 This morning we got attacked by mosquitoes and thought of a new song to add to our album. We climbed North Horn and South Horn and then the Bigelows! It rained at first but the weather cleared up enough for us to see some nice views. We hiked most of the day with our friend Seed! We really enjoyed talking to her today. We also almost ran out of water because this was a very dry stretch. Day 128|17.Jul.2019|Nauman Campsite » Lake of the Clouds Hut|Total Miles: 4.6 mi|Mile Marker: 1857.6 mi|The full moon was pretty spectacular last night and it made getting up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom totally worth it! I had the worst neighbor last night on the tent pad, not my human neighbor, he was a cool guy, I had a tree next to me that was creaking and squeaking non-stop - it was worse than someone that snores. Since it was dry when we woke up, Blacksmith and I booked it out of camp with the hope that maybe we could summit Mt. Washington or at least beat the rain. We had gorgeous skies and views on Mt. Pierce and could see the clouds rolling over Washington. The rest of the trek to the Hut was great, even when we got up in to the clouds and the rain started to come in. Again, it felt like we were on some sort of space exploration. The rain only really started coming in the last 20 minutes and visibility drastically decreased, but I knew we were going to be indoors soon and a few hikers we passed told us we can have their Hut breakfast that they skipped out on. The Hut Croo here is fantastic and so welcoming! We got the weather report and made the no-brainer decision of staying here for the night and hit the summit tomorrow when it’s not calling for thunderstorms and hail. We still might not get a view, but it’s not worth hiking in this weather today. We watched the rain get wind swept out of the gutters and go up the roof - This weather is insane. We hung out, played games, napped, and ate all their leftovers. The only downside of the day was having to share the Hut with about 50 teenage girls. • • #appalachiantrail #NOBO2019 #ATclassof2019 #AT2019 #trektheAT #thetrek #hiketheAT #hikertrash #appalachianhikers #GeorgiatoMaine #GAME #withguthook #theatguide #NewHampshireAT #thewildandwonderfulwhitesofnewhampshire #letsrollbutthole 2 days ago by @agannon22

Fairly often I see posts about how folks came to love the outdoors. Many people get their start hiking and camping at a young age, a passion passed down from a parent. I grew up in a rural area, but my parents aren’t and never have been hikers or campers. I didn’t go on my first hike until I was 21 years old. But, how cool is it that I get to do a little reverse-parenting and share my passion for hiking with my mom? ——— How did you develop a love of the outdoors? I’d love to hear your stories. ——— 📷 of @bennett5123 on our first extended hiking/camping trip two weeks ago. 📍this is Tutelo land . . . . . #AppalachianTrail #trektheAT #virginiaisformountainlovers #mcafeeknob #at2019 #girlswhohike #allwomenalltrails #hikelikeagirl #adventurelikeagirl #optoutside #forceofnature #sweatydirtyhappy #fatgirlshiking #fatandoutdoorsy #takingupspaceoutdoors #womenwhohike #sheexplores #wildeast #myblueridge #peoplewhohike #withguthook #georgiatomaine #nationalforests #publiclandowner #mypubliclands #takemebackpacking #getyourassintonature #outtherepodcast #gooutsideandplay #appalachianhikers 3 days ago by @adventurelikeagirl

Wander Women To Do List ✔Vermont New Hampshire Maine We are facing our final two States which are described as the hardest of the Appalachian Trail. The White Mountains are known for rugged terrain, steep ascents and descents, extreme weather patterns but more importantly, amazing beauty. The Whites have been on our To Do list for many years. Day 102 1672.7 to 1692.4 It has been raining pretty much the whole day. It’s not too bad since the green tunnel gives you a lot of protection. My favorite parts so far has been walking thru the pine sections, smells so good. Some nice views when it was not raining. Did see another bear right next to the trail. He saw me first and ran for the hills. I have less than 500 miles until Katahdin. 3 days ago by @akat2019

I finally arrived in #rocksilvania since the hike out of Port Clinton we encounter long fields of rocks to climb over. Of course the trail is not all big rocks, but they’re strenuous and slow me down a lot. In the pic you see the view of Knife‘s Edge. My new shoes are better than the last ones, my toes definitely have enough room. I’m though not quite sure how long they will held up and also my ankles hurt... we will see how this continues. Today we met a guy who’s trying to go for the selfsupported record SOBO on the Appalachian Trail. He will start July 23 and wants to finish in 40 days. I met Bedpan one night at Murrow Park a couple weeks ago. The sun had set so lighting was with some studio strobes. I'm not sure who was more mesmerized by the light, Bedpan or the 3 mosquitoes (above his right hand) who photo-bombed the shot... Bedpan, who comes from Philly, took to the trail on March 1st for a NOBO thru-hike. I met a 26 year old donkey named Jake and I think we are best friends now? The second photo is what happens when you get up at 4 am, hike ~3 miles in the dark, and catch sunrise. I thought it was nice and all, but I needed a nap. Last night we camped at the drive in theatre that’s just off trail, and laid in the grass and watched a double feature. They let hikers camp and see the movies for free! Lazy days good times. 4 days ago by @lexipatt0n
